Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker (Official Opposition) recognizes the international success of Director John Hopkins' Bluefin (NFB) in the PEI Provincial Legislature. Bevan-Baker urges legislators and Canada's Department of Fisheries to more to protect the fragile ocean ecosystem and depleted species still found in the surrounding waters of Prince Edward Island, as located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Famed Oceanographer Sylvia Earle with Director John Hopkins

at the Reception following Bluefin won the Wildlife Award at the 2017 San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival

Bluefin is a film which, for the first time, allows us to experience endangered bluefin as the extraordinary wild animal they truly are - rather than misunderstanding them and seeing their only value as sushi on a plate. It is time we finally understand that they are as important to the oceans as tigers, elephants and panda bears are for our continents.

Producer/Director/DP John Hopkins

Bluefin was honoured by Raindance as one of “five documentaries made within the last decade that best showcase these environmental issues” - 2018 World Environment Day. In 2018, Bluefin was picked up by California distributor Gravitas Ventures making it available to over a billion subscribers from such online platforms as: Hulu iTunes, GooglePlay, Amazon Prime, Vimeo Plus and Sony PlayStation. Hopkins’ doc has already been broadcast in Germany, RT (Russian Television Network) and Spain with more broadcasts pending. The NFB has launched Bluefin to 150 libraries across Canada. Bullfrog Films has picked up US and Canadian Educational Rights and the film has been garnering outstanding reviews.
